Creating a mood: tips for home lighting

Being on summer vacation and spending time in the sun, we always feel the inner rise and joyful feelings. We admire how everything works in nature and how subtly the changes during the daylight hours correspond to our mood. When the first gentle ray of the sun is born on a summer morning, it gives us awakening and then turns into a bright day, bringing strength and cheerfulness of spirit. And in the evening, a warm soft light slides long thin rays somewhere on the horizon and creates a feeling of soft relaxation and bliss.

When planning home lighting, few people think that you can learn from nature to create a mood, distributing light sources and lighting nuances in the house and taking into account the time of day and seasonal changes. I offer you some tips for creating lighting, with which you can build a comfortable atmosphere in the house and maintain the health of the whole family in excellent condition.

Tip # 1. Use natural light

First of all, pay attention to the sources of natural light in the house. Place the furniture you most often use close to it. For example, it can be a dining table placed by the window, or part of the kitchen area with a Breakfast bar. This approach will create a cheerful mood at the beginning of the day, will program the most positive emotions. But a group of upholstered furniture with a TV is better to place in the darkened part of the room. Usually family gatherings and watching movies take place in the evening, when you do not need bright light, but on the contrary, you need relaxation.

Tip # 2. Place the lighting according to the furniture arrangement

Before you buy lamps and spend a lot of money on your favorite fashionable chandelier, determine where they will be placed, when and how you will use them. To do this, it is most reliable to refer to the furniture plan and begin to place the lighting in relation to the places of placement of furniture in the house. Having such a plan, you can easily determine in which places you need bright light, and where only decorative lighting is needed. That furniture will tell you what lighting to use to create a comfortable environment. For example, above the table where the family gathers and receive guests, it is better to place a large lamp or chandelier to illuminate the dining area and create a festive mood.

Placing lamps in groups at different levels of height, you can control the mood in the house.

Tip # 3. Place lighting on several levels

The upper level of lighting is the lamps located above the head of the person. They are usually the main source of light in the room. The upper light is installed both in the center of the room, emphasizing its symmetry, and asymmetrically, illuminating various groups of objects. Lamps located in the center of the room, it is best to choose a soft ambient light, it will illuminate the space evenly, creating a semblance of natural daylight. This light can give flat ceiling lights, glass ceiling with diffused light or stained glass ceilings. Lighting devices are located asymmetrically, shifted from the Central axis of the room, usually installed in several pieces, they give local light, highlighting individual parts of the space. For this purpose, directional lighting fixtures, suspended, built-in or spotlights can be used with the ability to control the light flow. Asymmetric ceiling light can be a good solution for rooms with several functional areas, such as a Studio or living room, combined with a kitchen or dining room.

The next level of lighting is medium. These are mainly decorative lighting, placed just above or below the level of the human eye: lighting for mirrors and paintings, sconces, table lamps, floor lamps. Medium light beautifully illuminates objects and interior details, creates a pleasant evening mood.

In addition to decorative purpose, mid-level lamps can have a functional application. These are, as a rule, technical lamps for illumination of various surfaces — lamps used for illumination of a table-top in kitchen or in a bathroom, the lamps built in cases.

The lower level of the luminaires are floor lamps, most often they are used to ensure safety in the evening when the main light is turned off. This light is used to illuminate the stairs or baseboards in the corridor. Lower lighting is most often used autonomously without turning on the main lighting. But if this light is used in conjunction with the lighting of the average level, you can achieve a spectacular, mysterious atmosphere.
