(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – 25 years of the Polo GTI (buy a used Volkswagen Polo GTI now)! To mark the anniversary, Volkswagen is launching the special model Polo GTI Edition 25. In 1998, the model bore the three iconic letters for the first time. A quarter of a century later, VW is now presenting a limited edition of the current Polo GTI.
Not only the famous “big brother” Golf GTI can look back on a long history, the Polo also has sporting ancestors: VW is celebrating a quarter of a century of the Polo GTI with the Polo GTI Edition 25 anniversary model, which is limited to 2,500 units.
Nothing has changed in terms of the drive: the 2.0 TSI with an output of 152 kW (207 hp) and 320 Newton meters of torque is used under the hood. It accelerates the front-wheel drive Polo GTI Edition 25 from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. In addition, the vehicle is equipped as standard with a specially tuned sports chassis. It lowers the body by 15 millimeters.
The red-painted brake calipers and trim strips, the honeycomb radiator grille and the chrome-plated tailpipes are typical GTI features. In addition, the Polo GTI Edition 25 offers a range of exclusive equipment details: In addition to the 18-inch “Adelaide” alloy wheels in black (black glossy), a black roof and black exterior mirrors underline the sporty appearance.
In the interior, TOP sports seats with perforated black and red leather and embroidered GTI lettering as well as glossy black inlays with red GTI lettering come as standard. The limited edition is reflected in the door sills with the “One of 2500” logo. In addition to the GTI colors Pure White, Kings Red Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic, Smoke Gray Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is also available in Ascot Gray (see images).
LED matrix headlights with dynamic high-beam assistant and LED daytime running lights are standard on board. The special model also has a multifunction sports steering wheel in leather with shift paddles and the 25 logo, as well as numerous assistance systems.
Like most Polo models, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is produced in Kariega, South Africa. “Our team in South Africa is very proud of this car,” says Martina Biene, Managing Director and CEO of Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA). “The Polo has a long tradition with us – especially the Polo GTI.” Opened in 1951, the plant near Port Elizabeth is the largest automobile factory in Africa. VWSA builds the Polo Vivo, the Polo and, as the only production facility in the world, the Polo GTI here.
The Polo GTI Edition 25 can be ordered in Germany from June 1, 2023 at prices starting at 35,205 euros.
