Designer creates vases that disappear into thin air

A whimsical gradient and ornate shapes create an optical illusion.

Desz Office artist and chief designer Bo Zhang has created a collection that is truly puzzling. The Stretch Color collection looks like an optical illusion, but is a set of three ordinary, perfectly functional vases. Using a gradient and curved lines, Zhang created vases that seem to stretch and disappear.

Depending on the angle of view, Stretch Colo vases look like 2D or 3D objects. Gradients go from color to full transparency, while only on a thin contour, straining your eyes, you can track the effect of an optical illusion.

Bo Zhang studied design at the Industrial Scuola Politecnica di Design University in Milan (Italy) and studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design, USA. In 2019, he founded the Desz office.

“Create works that have never been before” is the motto of his studio. Zhang believes that a good work of art should be sentimental, as well as have both a visual and a spiritual component.
